CAMS Account
- The account you have been given allows you access to computers on the CAMS network.
Please make sure to log off when you are done.
- Your initial password is computer generated. Please change it as soon as possible!
To do so, type "yppasswd" at the command line, and follow the prompt.

Available platforms
- Most computers in CAMS run the Linux Operating System. The Microsoft Windows 2000 platform is also available on computers in the public room.

Editors and Latex

On Linux: For editing text documents you can use Vi, Emacs or Xemacs. For editing Microsoft Word documents, you can use AbiWord, which handles .doc extensions or the OpenOffice Suite. Most tex/latex typesetting tools are also available on all Linux stations.
- On Windows: The Microsoft Office Suite is installed, as well as Scientific Workplace for editing Tex files.

Printing/ Scanning

There are three publicly available printers in CAMS:
- konica.cams.aub.edu.lb is the default double-sided printer
- laser.cams.aub.edu.lb is the default single-sided printer
- color.cams.aub.edu.lb is the color printer
The Konia printer is the default one. The use of double-sided printing is recommended.

A 2400x2400 dpi scanner is publicly available in room 421. Read the Scanner FAQ available in the CAMS documentation section online for more information.

SSH/FTP

On Linux: For ssh access outside AUB use "ssh -l user hostname", where "user" is your username on the server you are connecting to and "hostname" the machine you are accessing. For ftp access use "sftp".

On Windows: Use the Sockscap program (Start->Programs->SocksCap) to make your ssh/ftp connection to outside AUB.

Email

Your account is NOT a mail account, i.e. you cannot send mail from any client such as PINE, the Unix "mail" command or netscape mail using your CAMS account.

You can access your email if it is web-based (e.g Webmail/Imail/Imp/Hotmail/etc..), or if your mail server offers ssh access.

Storage

A CD writer are available for backing up data before leaving CAMS. Ask the system administrator for help.
